JV Conference Postponed Due to Cold Weather

We are postponing the JV Conference Race because of the cold temperatures.  We want a fun and safe environment for the skiers.  Friday and next Thursday are being tossed around, but no decision has been made yet.  Please stay tuned.

Yeah for snow!  We will be holding the conference meet at it's originally scheduled venue.  Here is the schedule for the day.

All Conference selections shall be awarded as follows:

1. Top 10 finishers in the boy’s pursuit race

2. Top 9 finishers in the girl’s pursuit race

3. Honorable Mention shall be granted to boys finishing in the 11th to 20th positions and to girls finishing in the 10th to 19th positions.

B.         Boy's Individual distance shall be a maximum of 5K.

            C.         Girl's Individual distance shall be a maximum of 5K.

            D.         Scoring for team points determined by the top 5 positions from each team  

Based on the results of the pursuit race.  All finishers will be ranked and score points.

I predict we will be back at school around 5pm.  

Thursday & Friday on Good Snow/ End of Season Info.

We're excited for the Conference Relay meet Thursday, Jan. 24th.  Please see the post below for details on the format.  The high temperature tomorrow is supposed to be 6F.  This is within State High School League guidelines, but still cold.  Please help make sure everyone has proper clothing including warm gloves and something to cover the face.

Friday, we will be taking a bus to practice at Green Acres.  We should be back around 5pm.  We will need each skier's family to sign a waiver form.  We will give them out in practice.  Here's an electronic copy if needed.  

Coaches are pleased with the overall attitude of skiers with tough snow conditions and cold weather.  After conference relays we have three meets left.  A limited number of varsity skiers will compete in the Conference Championship on Jan. 29th and Section Championship on Feb. 5th.  Other skiers will compete in the JV conference championship on Jan.31st.

Conference Relays This Thursday Jan. 24th.

Thanks to the people who notice that Jan. 24th is a Thursday not a Tuesday as listed on the conference Schedule. 

Here is a description of the format of the race:

The format is that each school is allowed to enter one ‘A’ team consisting of four skiers (two classic and two skate) for both boys and girls.  Each school may also enter several (unlimited??) ‘B’ teams consisting of three skiers (at least one classic skier and up to two skate) who will start a minute or two behind the ‘A’ teams.  (The ‘B’ teams are limited to three skiers in the interest of time and completing the event before dark.)  Each leg, whether ‘A’ team or ‘B’ team, will be approx 2.5 km.  If there are new/JV skiers who may not be quite fast enough to be on a relay team that finishes in a reasonable time, we can likely also do a mass start 2.5 km JV event.

St. Thomas 7-8-9 Meet Today/ Jan. 15th Moved to Trollhaugen

From St. Thomas coaches, "the 7-8-9 meet this Thursday, January 10th at STA is on. We will only cancel ifit it pouring rain before noon."  No rain so it looks like we're on.  We'll start about 3:30 or when all teams arrive.  We should be home around 5:30pm.   The ski course is on the west side of the school toward's the lake.

 The classic meet scheduled for Thursday, January 15th has been moved from Lebanon Hills to Trollhaugen. Coach Loufek spoke with the person in charge at Lebanon Hills. The course conditions are such that it is unsafe for a high school meet. The meet will begin at 6:00 p.m. at Tollhaugen.

Jan. 8th Skate Race @ Battle Creek (Volunteer Needed)

We will be hosting the meet at Battle Creek.  Coach Anderson will leave at 1:30 to set the course.  Coach Sedler will ride the bus with skiers.  We need someone who can drive the skis to the meet, as we are unable to get a bus with a trailer.  If needed the volunteer can drive Coach Anderson's Subaru.

Newly Scheduled Meet at Lake Elmo 1/3/13

Conditions are looking good locally.  Tartan has decided to host an additional skate meet for a smaller number of teams.   The Varsity kids will ski an easy 5.8k loop. JV skiers will ski a shorter course. Conditions will be great.  This is another great local venue for skiers to ski.

The meet will start about 3:30 or as soon as everyone arrives.  I predict we will be back at school about 5:30pm.

Located 1 mile north of Interstate 94 and 2.5 miles east of Interstate 694 at the intersection of County Road 19 (Keats Avenue North) and County Road 10 (10th Street North) in the City of Lake Elmo, Minnesota.

* From Interstate 94, exit at County Road 19. Follow County Road 19 to the north for one mile to County Road 10. Cross County Road 10 and proceed into the park.
* From Interstate 694, exit at County Road 10 (10th Street North). Follow County Road 10 east for 2.6 miles. Turn left (north) into the park.
