The Section 1 Race will be at Trollhaugen on Feb. 7

After countless emails, some of which read like Russian novels, we will be back on familiar snow for our Section 1 Championship meet. I skied Troll Hollow today, 2/4, and the snow was quite good. This was a good call by the section.

Help Please: We need a parent/volunteer for the day please. Email coach Anderson or Sedler if you could help the team out asap.

Race Day Schedule

7:40am- Leave School

9:30am – Coaches meeting – upper floor of the chalet

10:30 am – Girls Classic elapsed time

11:30am – Boys Classic elapsed time

12-1pm – Coaches confirm Classic race times

2 pm – Girls Skate pursuit

3 pm – Boys Skate pursuit

4pm - Awards (estimated)

5:30- 6:30 Arrival back at school. (estimate)

We will out of school all day for this race. For this reason only varsity skiers will attend. Students should make sure they visit with their teachers about missed lesson on Monday, if they have not already done so. Coaches will work with the office on attendance details.

Please bring healthy food for the day and a water bottle to stay properly hydrated. Another must is proper clothing for the weather. It is nice to have a second base layer to put on after the first race.

This race is in the pursuit format. That means that each skier will ski both a classic race and a skate race to achieve their best combined time. This format is fun to watch because skiers are sent out on the skate portion according to their times on the classic race. This means the first skier to cross the finish line wins. Skiers are racing head to head instead of against the clock.

Here's some info on scoring of the meet.

SCORING
The scoring base is the point total that race results are scored from. The scoring base for the Section Meets is 100 unless your section exceeds 14 teams. To determine the scoring base for more than 14 teams, count the total number teams in the meet multiplied by seven. Example: 15 teams x 7 = 105. This would be the point base for all races. The scoring base is not affected if a skier does not show or finish the race.

SCORING PROCEDURE
The team score will be determined by totaling the points scored by the top four finishers in the pursuit event. The first-place finisher of the event receives the full value of the scoring base. Each successive finisher shall score one point less than the previous place. Each team member will hold his or her place in the final standing. In case of a tie, the skiers share the value of their positions. The team with the highest overall score shall be declared the winner. All skiers shall maintain their individual ranking. Teams with fewer than four (4) finishers shall be included in the team point totals. At the State Meet non-team qualifiers will ski only as individuals and will not be included in the team scoring.

TIE BREAKER FOR TEAM SCORING
Combine the times of the four fastest finishers in the pursuit event. The team with the fastest time shall prevail.

If a tie still remains, go to the tied teams' fifth-place finishers in the pursuit event. The team with the highest score shall prevail.

If a tie still remains, go to the tied teams' sixth-place finishers in the pursuit event. The team with the highest score shall prevail.

If a tie still remains, go to the tied teams' seventh-place finishers in the pursuit event. The team with the highest score shall prevail.

Eight section meets will be conducted in boys' and girls' Nordic ski racing.

A. Each member school may enter a maximum of seven skiers. Each skier shall be eligible to ski in the pursuit event.

B. A team shall consist of a maximum of seven skiers.

More good news for Simley Nordic Skiers. Four IGHMS skiers placed in the top ten at the Classic Suburban Conference JV new skiers race. We earned 6th placed for the boys' race.
