Practice

Our first meet after the holiday break is a classic race. We will have a classic practice on campus on Tuesday, December 28th at 10 am. Please park on the west side of the school in the German Killer parking lot waxed and ready to ski.

Other workouts over break should be done as family time allows. Each skier has a workout expectations. Please do what you can to work on your skiing and to enjoy the holidays with your family. Parents or skiers please email if you have questions.

Mesabi Invite

The Mesabi Invite at Giant's Ridge is a scheduled meet this year. We will be traveling in style via coach bus shared by Tartan's and North St. Paul's teams. We'll leave quite early on Saturday the 8th and arrive home quite late after the meet.

This meet is the place to see the best skiers in the Upper-Midwest and to start getting to know the state meet course. The Mesabi Invite is the real deal and fun for skiers of many different ability levels.

Please pack healthy food and snacks for the day. A bit of pocket money would also be helpful. We'll give more exact details about departure times in the near future.

Dec. 16th Race @ The Ravine in Cottage Grove Hosted by Richfield

The start time for the race is 3:45. Boys will race first with the girls' race following shortly after the boys are out.

Note: There is a small cost to enter the park, ($5 per vehicle) that they use to help cover the cost of keeping the park and trails in nice shape.

Great Job at the First Meet.

Both younger and older skiers skied well at our first meet tonight. Summer and TJ were the fastest of our girls and boys respectively. Coaches were proud of everyone's effort and attitude on a cold night. Here are a few photos. Click them so they expand for the full effect.

First Race of Year At Trollhaugen/ Up Date on Our Course

Our first race of the season will be at 6pm on Tues. Dec 14th at Trollhaugen in Dresser, Wisconsin. This location was chosen by the conference early in Nov. anticipating sparse snow early in the season. We do have snow.

We should arrive back at the school around 8:30-9:00pm. We will have the kids call from the bus in-route.

The race time forecast is 5 degrees air temp. and a windchill of -5 degrees. These conditions are well within State High School League Guidelines, but cold nonetheless.

Parents and skiers please make sure that you have appropriate clothing for the conditions. Any skier who does not have appropriate clothing will not be allowed to travel, as proper dress becomes a safety issue. Remember to dress in layers.

Here are cut and paste directions from Trollhaugen's website.
From Twin Cities:
Take Interstate 35 North (35E or 35W)
Exit onto MN 97 East (turn right) and take for 13 miles
Turn Left onto MN 95 North and take for 6 miles
Turn Right on 243 East (will bring you across a the bridge into WI)
Take WI-35 North (left turn) for 4 miles.
You will come into the small town of Dresser. In Dresser turn right on Cty Rd. F
Take F for 1 mile and Trollhaugen is on the right hand side.


We are set up to groom now. I came in on Sunday morning to pack the course with the snowmobile. I was able to make a small circuit but kept getting the snowmobile stuck in the deep snow. I came back later in the afternoon and pulled the groomer around the area I was able to pack with the sled. We have a system that will work well for us. The snow will settle and firm making it easier going in the next day or two. We should have the full course ready soon. We will be ready before the Vikings anyway.

Also, the Southwest Review is coming to practice today to do a story on the course. A little press is always good. Watch for the article this weekend.
